In early November our daughter Lauren convinced my husband and I that she was ready to take on a dog of her own (mind you, she’s 25, had been out of graduate school for a year, a physical therapist, and living at home until she gets her school loans paid). We have a 9 yr old Lab/Retriever mix that we adopted when he was 7 weeks old. After much nagging and cajoling we agreed that she could get a dog (and we extracted promises of her keeping up with a new puppy, and mentioned that this is for life). She went online to the Pet Finders page and plugged in Lab/Retriever mix in the state of Ohio. We came upon the Lil’Paws Rescue site and saw one baby girl that was an exact replica of our Bear when he was a puppy. This was in early December, and Lauren inquired that day at Lil’Paws Rescue. Valarie sent a reply back almost immediately about the puppy. We found out that particular puppy was adopted and one of her sisters as well. The one available was a precious yellow lab looking one who was from the same litter. After several phone calls, and emails back and forth to Valarie from Lauren and visa versa( and passing the vet and home check…whew!), we set a date to drive down to Jackson Center (which is a 4 hour drive from Cleveland) and pick up Princess.
When we arrived Valarie made us feel at home and her son Bryson said that Princess (Prissy) or “Licky” which he liked to call her (because she loved to lick everyone) was his favorite. We enjoyed meeting her husband Greg (who was watching a football game at the time, and which my husband tried to gravitate to) and their other precious son Hunter.
After much debate, and after Princess was here two weeks, Lauren decided to change her name to Scout. Scout is a wonderful addition to our family, and Bear our older boy has really enjoyed having her in our home. Scout’s a “cuddler”, and loves sleeping on the couch next to someone. When one of us lays down on the couch or bed she’s right there next to them, and she sleeps with Lauren in bed at night. She’s been a blessing and we are thrilled to have met Valarie and her family. She’s been very helpful and was always there to offer a wealth of information if there is a question or concern for “her babies”.
While communicating with Valarie by email off and on for about 6 weeks and sending her updated pictures of Scout, Valarie’s home developed a busted pipe in the ceiling and resulted in flooding in her home over the winter. While Valarie was talking to repairmen and the insurance agency, she was worried about placing her other dogs while repairs were made. I continued to email Valarie to find out the progress of the repair situation and offered moral support. In mid-January she asked if I could act as a foster mom for Zoë (the last of the litter and Scout’s sister) until the repairs were made and/or a “forever” home was found for her.
After talking to my family and deciding that we would foster Zoë, we decided to drive down and pick her up on Saturday. Valarie insisted on organizing a transport shuttle to our home. The trek was made by wonderful volunteers from the start point in Jackson Center and ending Mentor, Ohio. We added Miss Zoë to our family on the 29th of January. I fell in love with her from the first second I saw her, it took my husband a bit longer but eventually we decided to adopt her as well. Scout was happy to have her sister back and Bear was “king of his domain” with two new “little sisters” to boss around. Adoption was finalized two weeks after we took her into our home. She’s been such a sweet addition to our family, and we realize that she was meant for us. We keep Valarie and Bryson updated with photos of the girls and Bear, and they in turn have turned into our unofficial “family”. We recommend Valarie and Lil’Paws to anyone who is looking for a dog. Her “babies” are spoiled and loved very much. In the interim Valarie is busy planning a get-together with our family and with Scout and Zoë’s other sister Ginger and her family sometime this summer. We can’t wait!!!

We just adopted Bella , she is the sweetest puppy you’d ever meet , and smart as can be . My husband wasn’t real thrilled about getting another dog , our’s died a couple years ago from lung cancer , she was 22 , and he said no more animals it’s just too hard when something happens . Every dog we have had died of old age or some kind of problem like the last . Mikie was a Manchester , very loveable but had seizures and ended up dying at 15 .
Last night Val brought Bella to us and oh my hubby fell in love with her right away . So I guess you know who’s puppy she is now .My 12 year old calico cat ( Cali isn’t too thrilled with her yet but I’m sure they will become friends fast . Cali grew up with my daughters dog before she moved out . We’ll see .
She woke me up at 5am to say hey I have to potty lol . Started with a little whimper then a full blown baby bark lol was the first time I heard her it was too cute .
Thank you so much Val and Lil’Paws for our new addition . I will highly recommend you too everyone . I’m sure we will keep you informed and give you lots of pictures .
Thank you SOOOOOO much !

ME AND MY “SHADOW”
We had recently lost our beautiful little Schnauzer, Chance, and felt we had so much love ready for a new member to our family. After many searches on the internet, I came across the web site for Lil Paws Rescue and found an adorable little “Bella” that was up for adoption. I immediately sent a note to Valarie of our interest. But – too late! Little Bella already had a new home!
Valarie then told me about a schnauzer mix that she would be getting at Lil Paws and told me to check out the pictures on her web site. I looked at the photos of this precious little girl that had been given the name “Chevy” by Valarie’s son. It was instant love! I asked Valarie to forward the form for me to begin the process of adoption. Once Lil Paws had received the form, Valarie told me she would be contacting my vet and references to insure we would be wonderful parents to our new girl. Yes, we were accepted! Valarie then called us and said she would bring “Shadow” (my husband, Jim, loved this name), to our home so the two sides could check out each other…Shadow has been with us ever since that visit! It was apparent that Valarie had shown her love and kindness as she cried for her during the first day at our home. Now, she is a beautiful girl with energy to spare! We love this little bundle of JOY!
The adoption process was so easy for us as Valarie had to do all of the work! When we welcomed Shadow in our home, she had already been spayed and all shots were current.
We also had an appt. with our vet (scheduled by Valarie, again!) to get stitches removed and one final check to make sure she was feeling 100%.
We are so thankful that there are people like Valarie Britt in this world….and I know the many pets she has saved will always be thankful for her efforts. We would highly recommend Lil Paws Rescue to anyone looking to add to their family! Thanks, again,
Valarie!
